Chocolate Trouble Aptitude Problem

The Chocolate Trouble Problem is as shown below :

Question :

3 friends : Nikhil, Santosh and Jeya have 93 chocolates among them. They decide to divide up the chocolates in the ratio

(1/2) : (1/3) : (1/5) . How many chocolates did Santosh get ? :)

Answer :

The simplest way to solve this problem is to first simplify the ratios. If you keep them as fractions you can get confused and end up making a mistake.

So now taking the LCM of the denominators we can say that : LCM of 2,3 and 5 is 30.

Multiply this to all the ratios to retain their relative values. So the new ratios will be

(30 X 1/2) : (30 X  1/3) : (30 X 1/5)

15 : 10 : 6

So now Santosh’s share will be 10/(15+10+6)  of the total chocolates = (10/31)

Hence no of chocolates Santosh gets = (10/31) X 93 = 10 X 3 = 30 chocolates :)
